Microblading Process

Microblading is the process of delicately implanting pigment into the skin via a handheld microblade to simulate the appearance of natural hair strokes. Microblading artists apply each hair stroke with a handheld microblade. This produces a very fine line that resembles real hair. Each individual hair is hand-drawn by the artists and blended in with the client’s existing eyebrow hair. Strokes are drawn in the direction of natural hair growth to simulate a hyper-realistic look.

It is a subtle enhancement to create the illusion of fuller brows. Microblading is perfect for people who have over-plucked or those who want to define, darken, or reshape their eyebrows.

Microbladed eyebrows are less aggressive than traditional cosmetic tattooing. All pigment is impacted into the epidermal layer of the skin; which is the layer that naturally renews itself on a regular basis.

Benefits

  • Fuller, more symmetrical eyebrows
  • Lasts 1 – 3 years (results vary)
  • Won’t wash off
  • High-quality, health-conscious products
  • Eyebrow shape designed for your individual facial symmetry

Touch-Up/ Follow-Up Appointments

All microblading procedures require two treatments: an initial treatment to establish shape and a perfecting session 6-7 weeks post-procedure. This allows enough time for the epidermis to slough off and the color to settle into your skin. After the first appointment, there is a possibility that 10-15% of the strokes will diminish or fade. At the time of the perfecting appointment, we will assess your pigment retention and make any adjustments needed. This allows us to perfect your desired brow and deposit the highest amount of pigment possible. This follow-up also increases the longevity of your tattoo.

Microblading FAQs

What type of ink is used in microblading?

Unlike traditional tattoos using carbon-based ink, cosmetic tattoos are made using iron oxide-based pigments, which are created to slowly fade over time.

How long will microblading last?

Due to the iron oxide-based ink, the tattoo does fade over time, making microblading a semi-permanent tattoo. Factors such as skin type, iron deficiency, pigment color (lighter ink fades faster), and sun exposure can affect the rate at which the ink is broken down. For best results is it recommended that you follow our aftercare instructions and touch up your eyebrows as needed (typically every 1-2 years).

Microblading lasts anywhere from 12 months – 3 years.
*Please note that results cannot be guaranteed as everyone retains and breaks down pigment differently.

What factors will affect my cosmetic microbladed tattoo?

  • Bleeding during the procedure: Excessive bleeding during the procedure will greatly affect how your body retains the pigment. It is important to follow pretreatment instructions to minimize bleeding such as avoiding the use of blood thinners and alcohol prior to treatment.
  • Oily skin: Increased oil production can cause hair strokes to blur and heal lighter than you would expect.
  • Smoking: Smokers may notice that microblading will fade faster.
  • Anemia and iron deficiency: Your body will absorb iron-based pigments more quickly.
  • Sun exposure: Increased sun exposure will cause premature fading.
  • The color of pigment: Lighter colors fade more quickly than darker colors.

What factors will affect my cosmetic tattoo?

The microblading method is designed to blend in with your natural brow hair. The more hair you have the more realistic the results will appear. If you have very little or very light eyebrows, the results will appear more 2D and it is possible that you may need more than two sessions to achieve your desired look.

Please make sure you are healthy enough to receive microblading before booking an appointment. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us!

How should I prepare for my appointment?

If you have reference photos, please feel free to bring these to your appointment.

  • No waxing/ threading one week prior to your appointment.
  • No tanning beds 30 days prior to your appointment.
  • You may not use a Retin-A near the eyebrows before or after the procedure.
  • Do not work out the day of your appointment.
  • You may not take any blood thinning medication 72 hours before your appointment (Aspirin, Ibuprofen, fish oil, Vitamin E, etc.) or directly after your procedure.
  • Do not drink alcohol 48 hours before your appointment.
  • Avoid caffeine on the day of your appointment.
  • Any of the above increases your risk of excessive bleeding, which affects the overall outcome of the procedure.
  • As with any tattoo, we recommend avoiding pools, salt water, saunas, and extreme sun exposure for at least 2 weeks post-treatment.

What can I expect at my appointment?

Your brow area will be thoroughly cleaned and a topical anesthetic will be applied. We will design your brows, taking into consideration your skin type, existing brows, bone structure, and general face symmetry. We will make a custom-shaped eyebrow that will match each client’s facial features and skin tone. This is completely customized and no templates are used. We will work together to create a brow design that achieves a flattering, natural look. Once the shape and design are approved, I will begin tattooing.

What can I expect immediately after my procedure?

Post-treatment your eyebrow tattoo will appear much darker and bolder. You may experience some redness and swelling for the next 48-72 hours. Mild bruising may also occur and may take a few days to resolve.

Within 5-10 days you will notice scabbing and flaking on the tattooed area. DO NOT PICK AT THESE, as doing so can result in loss of pigment. Brows may appear spotty or patchy until the entire brow has finished exfoliating.

Some areas may appear very light; this is due to a thickening in the epidermis of the skin that hides the shading underneath. This will normalize within the next 4-6 weeks and the softened pigment will bloom back into the surface of the skin. At 6 weeks the brows will be fully healed.

How long does the procedure take?

Initial appointments take 2-3 hours; numbing, designing process, and tattooing. The follow-up appointment takes 1.5-2 hours.

I have had my eyebrows tattooed before, can you fix them/ touch them up?

This requires a prior consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for microblading. Laser tattoo removal fading may be required in some cases.

Does microblading hurt?

Topical anesthetics are used to minimize discomfort during the procedure; however, pain tolerance varies by client. The sensation is often described as a “sting” and is usually tolerable for most clients. Our microblading artist will work in accordance with your pain level to make the procedure as smooth as possible.
